LAMB Camp 2013: Kenya
On July 20, 2013, LAMB Foundation partnered with the Member of Parliament (MP) Honorable Wesley Korir of the Cherangany Constituency and also the founder of Kenyan Kids Foundation to begin a journey of promoting volleyball across Kenya.
They said a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, and that is exactly what this camp is set out to do. The camp hosted 45 girls and 1 boy at Kipkeikei High School. We explored the basics and fundamentals of volleyball from blocking, to passing, serving and the steps needed to attack.
3 different schools and 1 neighborhood were represented at the camp. Students from Kipteudeh Secondary, Potwa Secondary, IDP camp and the host school Kipkeikei High were present. The outstanding students of the day were announced as Violah Chepkemai, Bartrobah Chesang, and Stellah Chepkemboi.
After long deliberation pre and post camp we have established a committee of individuals dedicated to making LAMB camp more than just 1 annual event. We plan to dispurse specialty skills throughout the league tournaments each year. At certain tournaments representatives from LAMB Committee will provide 2-hour sessions (Saturday and Sunday) to build the fundamentals of volleyball with the youth. Each year we will then follow up with our annual camp to bring forth the best of the camp participants to learn additional skills and find opportunity for advancing in volleyball.
